7 Tips for Overcoming Overwork

Not-So-Fun fact: 35% of US employees regularly work over the weekend, and another 43% don’t use all of their vacation days. That’s crazy! While it can be easy to get sucked into the hustle and bustle of the weekly grind, it’s important to make some time for yourself. These seven time-saving tips will not only boost your efficiency at work, but also present you with the rarest gift of all—free time!

The reason I am putting on my business conference January 7-9 in Orlando, Florida is to help more CPAs, EAs and attorneys work LESS and make MORE. If you haven’t RSVP’d yet, please do. It’s the best investment you can make for your 2015 year…and the rest of your career!

7 Tips for Overcoming Overwork

1) DEAL WITH SMALL TASKS IMMEDIATELY – If a task takes less than two minutes, do it now instead of throwing a sticky note into a pile of to-dos!

2) FIGHT OFF DISTRACTIONS – Filter the unimportant things out. The average US worker spends nearly an hour a day on Facebook. Save the fun stuff for your free time.

3) PRIORITIZE – Figure out what is the most important of the important things and get it done! Did you know that 80% of the average workday is spent on noncrucial things? Adjust your focus to encompass only the important and reap the rewards!

4) SET REALISTIC DEADLINES FOR TASKS – Most tasks take double the time they are planned for, so make sure to consider that when you are planning your schedule!

5) FINISH ONE THING AT A TIME – If you focus on the task at hand and don’t let yourself get distracted by everything else on your list (or everyone else’s lists), you’ll stay on track! Every eight minutes, on average, a person gets an interruption. Don’t let this knock you off your game!

6) DELEGATE – Don’t be greedy with your workload; let someone else help with non-essential tasks. If you delegate just one 20-minute daily task, like returning emails or filing records, you would save almost two hours a week!

7) GET ORGANIZED – Keep everything in a system, not in your head. Being organized really allows people to delegate; it also keeps you from having to try to remember everything you are supposed to get done for the day. 30% of workers don’t use any to-do lists. Do you?

Don’t forget that spending time working only gets better when you invest in yourself. If you aren’t putting money in your personal piggybank, how can you give to others, right!!? The best athletes have the best coaches. Develop your support dream team. That’s why I have my academy, to give advice to help folks get in the business of growing your business.

Like most practitioners, you probably spend an enormous amount of time working IN your practice. Give yourself an early holiday gift – register now and join me for 3 Days in sunny Florida this January to work ON your practice so you have a happier, healthier work life.

What I’m Thankful for this Year

michael and roslyn rozbruchAs Thanksgiving approaches, I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting on all the things I have to be thankful for – as I’m sure many of you are doing the same. The usual suspects, family, health, and prosperity have once again graced the top of my list, but “Our Members” at my Tax & Business Solutions Academy are right up there too. In fact, my company has a whole lot to be thankful for this year. I’ve spent the past 12 months building my business and providing as much value as I possibly can to you and our members. I’m so grateful for how well it’s going and excited to hear you share your success stories!

I decided to send out some bonus surprises in effort to show our members just how thankful I actually am. If you are a part of our Insider’s Circle, then you should have received a few of these surprises by now. The first was a blanket that read “You can sleep better tonight knowing Michael’s got you covered.” The response to this gift was absolutely mind-blowing. People loved it and my team loved hearing about it. As always, your feedback is important to us (even if it has nothing to do with a gift). We’re always working to improve ourselves in effort to provide a better service to you.

Thanksgiving is first and foremost a time to give thanks, but it’s also a time to eat excessive amounts of food. My wife and the Director of Operations at Michael Rozbruch’s Tax & Business Solutions Academy, Roslyn has been in charge of our Thanksgiving dinner since the day I met her (except the turkey, that’s all me), so we almost always host the traditional feast at our humble abode. We love filling our house with all the friends and family members we can fit! Our dinner isn’t a fancy affair by any means, we encourage our guests to show up in comfortable clothes (with stretchy waistbands) and we make a day of casual conversation, cooking (did I mention that I’m in charge of the turkey?), and, of course, sweet potato pie. After all, that’s what the holidays are all about; spending time with the people you love, making new memories and traditions, and sharing in your Thanksgiving.

How are you celebrating Thanksgiving this year? Let me know, I’d love to hear your plans! Connect with me on LinkedIn or post your plans on my Facebook page.

Marketing and Technology Extravaganza on January 7-9th, 2015!

I have news you need to know to protect your practice, your career, and your family in the months ahead.

What I’m about to reveal to you dwarfs even the Federal Trade Commission’s attempt to ban charging upfront fees to our clients.

It pales in comparison to when the big-marketing-budget-shysters jumped into tax problem resolution. –Whom most of them are now defunct or bound for jail – maybe both.

Now, there is a new threat, a larger threat and it could be the biggest challenge of your career….

Did you know that a few months ago, a major national tax preparation company decided to enter the tax problem resolution business? And I don’t mean in small way.

That’s causing all the other major tax preparation firms to jump on the band wagon.

This is the biggest threat in years and you probably haven’t even heard much about it yet. Nonetheless, it is a serious threat to your business.

Here’s a few questions you should be asking yourself:

  • Can you compete if a major tax prep firm starts offering tax problem resolution services on every street corner in your community?
  • Will your fees be compared to the tax mills rates for tax problem resolution work?
  • Would you benefit from knowing the secrets you can employ today to not only survive this threat, but to thrive?
  • Should you become part of Michael Rozbruch’ s Tax & Business Solutions Academy  Insider Circle and learn what you must do to thrive despite these challenges?
  • Have you seen the Liberty Tax ads promoting tax problem resolution services?
  • Why do you think H&R Block bought Beyond 415?

It isn’t my intent to simply frighten you. That would be unproductive without offering solutions. While it’s smart to acknowledge the dangers out there, and to take steps to protect yourself, it’s not the end of the world.

Think About What You Already Know

You have seen threats by regulatory bodies that wanted to take away our ability to charge fees in advance. You have seen industry predators attempt to monopolize tax problem resolution with marketing mega-budgets and shoddy work while giving your valuable service a bad name. You have survived these threats and you can survive the newest carnivore seeking to eat your lunch. But, you can’t survive what you don’t see coming and prepare for it. That’s why we are opening day two of the Marketing and Technology Extravaganza with a high-powered panel discussion offering insights, predictions, and solutions to the latest attacks on our unique specialty. This entire event is designed to inform you of the threats and provide viable solutions for you to not only survive, but to thrive in the coming years.

Whether you are a CPA, an Enrolled Agent, an Attorney, nothing you do now is more important than preparing for the newest threat to your specialized professional service. Take heart knowing that there are many steps you can take to defend and prevail against the newest industry Goliath(s).

Top Experts are Top Students

This is a photo taken with Brendon Burchard.  He is one of the most in-demand speakers on motivation, high performance, and marketing in the world. His #1 New York Times bestselling book The Millionaire Messenger fantastic – I recommend it to all the clients I coach. We were both at the GKIC Insider’s Circle Info Summit in St. Louis this week.  Brendon once said:

“The top experts in the world are ardent students.
The day you stop learning, you’re definitely not an expert.”

I couldn’t agree more.  We are NEVER done learning.  The top athletes in the world invest all they can in the best coaches – why shouldn’t business owners?  I continually invest in my knowledge base to best serve my clients and academy members…are you investing in yourself?

We are here to learn, give, grow and make a difference.  Top experts are top students.  The bell has rung – are you ready for class?
