IRS Fear and Dirty Dozen Scams

In my last interview on the Big Biz Show I addressed people’s top fears.
1. Darkness
2. Spiders
3. The IRS

We also talked about the top Dirty Dozen scams to look out for this year, how to protect yourself, and what scam artists are looking for!

Phone scams are on the top of the Dirty Dozen Scam list. Here is a tip to share with your clients if they receive a phone call from the “IRS.” The IRS is generally required to send at least five collection notices with the last two being certified to the last known address before they call you or pay you a visit. You will never be required to give out banking or credit card information over the phone to pay on the spot.

Also look out for threats of police showing up on your doorstep. This is also FALSE!

Bill Clinton signed the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights in 1998 that gave taxpayers the right to receive prompt, courteous, and professional assistance in their dealings with the IRS, to be spoken to in a way they can easily understand, to receive clear and easily understandable communications from the IRS, and to speak to a supervisor about inadequate service. Americans need to beware of scams and know their rights. It is up to you as leaders in tax resolution to educate them!

Inform your friends, family and current and potential clients on how to avoid this and many other IRS scams this tax season.
